Sorry for the long time, no blog everyone! I’ve been extremely busy lately—and a tad stressed as usual—but God is getting me through it, and is doing some great work with His Spirit in my life.
Recently, I traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for a B-boy battle, and throughout the cyphering (time when breakers just get down and exchange the dance with each other) I felt…happy. Not happy simply because I was dancing—no, happy because I felt a greater sense of purpose in every movement I was making.
A long time ago—like eight years ago—when I first started breaking, I only saw moves. Big, flashy, cool ways the body was moving to impress people. I said, “I need to do X, Y, and Z if I want to get better and be a better B-boy”. It was less about substance, and more about cramming a lot of stuff in to impress people watching. Things change, as does time, and this past Saturday in Nashville, God gave me time to reflect on that.
Just like in our everyday lives, whether you’re a dancer like me or a doctor, writer, lawyer, teacher—whatever—every movement we make has a purpose! It doesn’t have to be a literal movement either; it could be a move to another phase in life, or a move to a different job. Whatever your movement is, God has a purpose in that movement, and in that, so do you!
We don’t simply do something out of the sheer want of doing it. If that were the case, then the effort to move becomes fruitless; pointless, even. When you make a move, you have a clear objective in mind:
I want to show my character and style in this movement.
I want to provide for my family in this movement.
I want to become a better man/woman in this movement.
I want to glorify God in this movement.
When you move with a purpose, whatever that purpose is, you find yourself where you are, in that exact moment.
You find out who you really are, deep down, with that movement.

For the curious, here is one of the battles–and the highlight for me because it was so hype–at “Futuristic Battle Arena 6” in Nashville, TN:
