“31Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” –Mark 6:31 (NIV)
Most days we just want to keep toiling. We see the work that needs to be put in, the sacrifices that need to be made, and the sweat that needs to be poured out. It’s natural—you want to get what you set out for—you want to get stuff done and be efficient, whether that be in work, relationships, or even leisure activities. Your world—our world—is always on-the-go. The earth doesn’t stop for anyone, right?
Today, find some time to really rest. If, like the apostles, you find yourselves doing awesome work but don’t have the time to nourish yourself—the Spirit that lives in you, or your mind and body—you will burn out, quick. You’ll forget the meaning of your walk; you will forget the reason why you love what you do and why God gave that purpose to you; and invariably, you will lose out on progress because you don’t have any energy left.
Whether that be ten, solid minutes getting fed in the Word; a half hour journaling and reflecting; or even five minutes just letting Him know you’re thankful—take some time to drown out the noise and really love the rest He has given you.
